Home Baking for Hammies...

Whilst I had been having a long day at work

I finally managed to have to time after work to look for some tasty
recipes for Bells.

Firstly, there isn't a lot of good recipes out there for hamsters,
mainly because of the ingredients used &
whether or not
if my hamster Bella
will actually have it.

Vanilla-yazoo from hamstercentral was happy to share her
recipe to hamster lovers.

"-bonio dog biscuits, broken down into small bits
-a few basil leaves chopped in
-sunflower seeds
-mealworms (some in half, some i rubbed to break small)
-porridge oats (plain)
-some of her burgess dwarf mix
-3 medium eggs to stick it together

mixed everything into a bowl, and placed on some non stick baking trays,
baked at 200 for about 20 mins"

Why not give it a try & see if your hamster likes it.

Ultimate meringue recipe - Recipes - BBC Good Food

Oh my these are good!

So good in fact, that Bells can't have any.

What a shame, eh??

All for me to eat :)

Hehe

Ingredients
  • 4 large organic egg whites , at room temperature
  • 115g caster sugar
  • 115g icing sugar

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to fan 100C/ conventional 110C/gas 1⁄4. Line 2 baking sheets with Bake-O-Glide non-stick liner or parchment paper (meringue can stick on greaseproof paper and foil).
  2. Tip the egg whites into a large clean mixing bowl (not plastic). Beat them on medium speed with an electric hand whisk until the mixture resembles a fluffy cloud and stands up in stiff peaks when the blades are lifted.
  3. Now turn the speed up and start to add the caster sugar, a dessertspoonful at a time. Continue beating for 3-4 seconds between each addition. It's important to add the sugar slowly at this stage as it helps prevent the meringue from weeping later. However, don't over-beat. When ready, the mixture should be thick and glossy.
  4. Sift a third of the icing sugar over the mixture, then gently fold it in with a big metal spoon or rubber spatula. Continue to sift and fold in the icing sugar a third at a time. Again, don't over-mix. The mixture should now look smooth and billowy, almost like a snow drift.
  5. Scoop up a heaped dessertspoonful of the mixture. Using another dessertspoon, ease it on to the baking sheet to make an oval shape (pic 3). Or just drop them in rough rounds, if you prefer. Bake for 1 1⁄2-1 3⁄4 hours in a fan oven, 1 1⁄4 hours in a conventional or gas oven, until the meringues sound crisp when tapped underneath and are a pale coffee colour. Leave to cool on the trays or a cooling rack. (The meringues will now keep in an airtight tin for up to 2 weeks, or frozen for a month.) Serve two meringues sandwiched together with a generous dollop of softly whipped double cream.

When Bells hears noises
which she does not know
what the sound is.

She likes to stand still and
listen carefully to what it is...

Here she is munching away, enjoying the day as it goes past.

Then...

"I can hear something....*squeak* mumbled Bells

"What is that sound??" said Bells, curiously.

Hamster game...

Seeing as it was a Sunday.

Bells thought it would be excellent evening
to actually play a game.

Now you might be thinking, what "Game" is Bells
thinking of??

Well, I think I'm asking that same question to myself.

*scratches my head*

So, I thought I better ask...

"Bells, what game do you have in mind?" ...

"Good question!" ... squeaked Bells

"We are going to play 'Hide & Seek'. I hide and you can try and look for me" said Bells, with a smile on her little face.

"Okay" ...

So, here I am, counting away until Bells starts scurrying around in her cage.

Chocolate Strawberry Heart-Shaped Ice-Cream Sandwiches...

Mmm... the taste of chocolate just seems
so delicious!

And talking about chocolate!

How about 'Chocolate Strawberry Heart-Shaped Ice-Cream Sandwiches'??

I came across this website called www.marthastewart.com and they do
lots of different recipes.

Makes 24
Ingredients
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 to 2 1/2 pints strawberry ice cream, slightly softened

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream butter, vanilla, and sugar. Add eggs and milk, and mix until combined. Add reserved flour mixture, and mix on low speed until incorporated, scraping the sides of the bowl with a spatula at least once. Divide the dough in half, and shape each half into a flat disk. Wrap each disk in plastic wrap, and chill until firm, about 1 hour.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface; use an offset spatula to unstick the dough every few turns of the rolling pin. Roll dough to an 1/8-inch thickness. Cut dough using a variety of heart-shaped cookie cutters from 2 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter, making sure there is a top and bottom cookie for each sandwich. Place hearts on a parchment-lined baking sheet; chill until firm, about 30 minutes. Remove from refrigerator; use a fork to prick holes all over the surface of the cookies. Bake until firm, 12 to 15 minutes. Let cool slightly on baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Using half the cookies, spoon softened strawberry ice cream about 1/2 inch thick on each underside. Place matching cookie on top of ice cream, top-side facing out. Transfer immediately to freezer to harden; repeat with remaining ingredients. Serve directly from the freezer. Sandwiches can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer for 3 to 4 days.

Raspberry Coconut Ice...

Have you ever wondered
how to make your very own

Raspberry Coconut Ice?

Well, here's your lucky coconut day!

This is a really lovely recipe that
I came across on

And I love that the fact
this tastes so
delicious!

(Note: I had to make some minor adjustments
to the ingredients as I did not have some at hand)

  • 320g/2 cups icing sugar mixture, sifted

  • 315g/3.5 cups desiccated coconut

  • 395g can condensed milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • a few drops pink colouring

  • 4 tablespoons raspberry sauce or raspberry puree (Optional, as I didnt have any)

  • A few drops raspberry extract (Optional, as I didnt have any)

  • 1. Lightly grease a square cake pan (I find that this is best using a smaller pan) and line base and sides with baking paper. Divide icing sugar between two bowls and then stir half of the coconut into each. Make a well in the centre.

    2. Divide the condensed milk and vanilla in two parts. Place one half into one of the bowls and combine to coat the coconut. Press the white coconut mixture into the prepared pan and smooth over with some baking parchment.

    3. Add the raspberry extract, pink colouring and raspberry puree to the other half of the condensed milk and vanilla mixture to the other coconut mixture and stir until the colour is well combined. I would hold back a few tablespoons of the milk mixture as you don’t want the coconut to be too wet. If it is too hard to stir this use clean hands. Spread this over the white layer and smooth on top with baking parchment. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm.

    4. Once set, carefully remove it from the tin using the baking parchment and cut into squares or rectangles. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

    Enjoy!

Lionsgate Buys Summit for $412.5 M & Twilight saga may continue after fifth film...

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" may not be the end of Bella, Edward and Jacob's on-screen journey, according to the head of the franchise's new Hollywood home.

The chief executive of Lions Gate Entertainment, which on Friday acquired "Twilight" film studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 mil..., said he believes the film franchise will continue to have value to his company, even after the Nov. 16 release of the fifth movie completes the adaptation of author Stephenie Meyer's four books.

"I'm anticipating 'Breaking Dawn Part 2' being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office," said Jon Feltheimer, predicting the next film would slightly outdo the $697 million global take of "Breaking Dawn Part 1."

Asked whether the franchise would continue in some form for Lions Gate, he added, "It's hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn't have ongoing value. It's an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is 'Boy I hope so.'"

One person close to the acquisition deal but not authorized to speak publicly suggested that because Lions Gate, unlike Summit, has a television production unit, it could adapt "Twilight" for the small screen.

Asked whether there was a possibility of bringing "Twilight" to television, Feltheimer answered, "I would certainly hope so."

    Happy New Year!

Yes, a late reply, however better late than never.

So, the sun is shining outside, though a very chilly breeze and the temperature here in England is 2 degrees, yikes!

Any how, Bells has been busy sleeping.
But I have promised her a big homemade treat
    that I had made.

Let's see how she is, shall we...?

"Morning Bells, how are you today?"

    *Squeak squeak*

"Yes, yes very cold outside. But here's a treat to keep you warm." ...

"Thanks! *squeak*" says Bells, with a big smile on her little face
